New Plymouth Feby. 20/60 My dear Sir, I am sorry to hear of your illness and of the consequent probability that you will not be able to visit us in Taranaki during these times of perplexity. You will hear all about our proceedings from Mr. Parris W. King I think is getting frightened and has taken himself off to the bush where he is building a pa I suppose. Do you remember my putting into your hand when you were last here a scrap of paper containing my whakaaro about selling land. If in your illness and confusion you happen to have not lost it please put it in the Maori Messenger or else send it me or a copy of it as I should like just to overhaul my own brains again on that subject. Hoping to hear of your full restoration to health shortly I remain in great haste Yours respectfully, John Whiteley. D. McLean Esq.
