12th. Sept. 68 Napier. My dear McLean, I wrote you a long letter yesterday and posted it. How very disgusting that our Province has so little consideration from the Govt. We must depend on ourselves --- be better organised than now, and certainly our own population must be armed at once if you can get the arms. We can avert ruin from this Province I feel sure if we only timely begin, but I fully treated on this point in my yesterdays letter. No men will serve under the little man however if general opinion as expressed is to be believed. I'm afraid Fraser will have nothing to do with him on the other coast and that the little man had better be kept in his place in the house. He has plenty of pluck and but little discretion. When you come back I think you can work Morgan and other if only authorized to do so and with the necessary funds. Yours truly, Joseph Rhodes
