Waipa September 12th. 1856 Dear Sir, After a most fatigued journey or a fortnight we arrived here on Monday evening the 8th. inst. The Rivers were much higher than when we passed with the horses and I can assure you that it will be a serious consideration when I make the journey to the Ahuriri again, I feel the effects of the trip very much. I must particularly request that you will get the Pony sold immediately as I am suffering rather from the rather common somplaint of lowness of cash. Do not refuse £20 if you cannot find a customer give him to Moncur to raffle, so that you will be able to bring me the money when you come this way. Things were bad in Auckland when we left but I believe they are much worse at the present time. I have written to Mr. Commissioner McLean to announce your safe arrival at Ahruriri also to ask him if it is possible to get anything to do --- but am much afraid that it will be fruitless. I have no intention of going to Auckland before the Summer times are to bad and money too scarce. Simpson is regularly used up and does not know what to do to raise the wind. I saw Mr. McKenzie the other day on my road home and am sorry to say that he looks very bad his nose is entirely gone and the disease does not seem as if it were going to stop there but seems to be eating its way over his face etc. he is a fearful sight. I would not recommend you to be later than January in making your journey to Auckland or th the return would be late in the season --- and remember the snow is on the Plains in March and April when it would be almost impossible to make the journey at all. I shall be happy to assist you what is in my power when you take horses there in the Summer but not later than February. Remember me to the Macs and am very truly yours Will N. Searancke. A.
