The natives of Runanga received a letter from the Upper Taupo hauhau telling them that fighting had commenced at Waikato and that the king had raised his patu. I do not believe this about the king. Most of the natives that came to attend to the Land Court have returned to their homes, the remainder of them held a meeting this evening when they decided on staying no longer, without this is changed the court will break up tomorrow evening. As I said before I dont think that there is any danger but the natives think differently or pretend to do so. I wrote you a short report from Tauranga (wahi o Taupo) whilst on my way here. If you would let me have some means of communicating with you I should be very glad. I have the honor to be Sir Your obedient Servant Jno. St George His Honor Donald McLean, Gen. Gov. Assess, etc. etc. etc. Hawke Bay
