Napier April 26 /71 Dear McLean On opening my Wellington officials I find one referred to me for explanation. It seems Inspector Roberts has written a letter to the armed constabulary office making a complaint that I have officially corresponded with constabulary officers. The following is the case - when Whenuanui Puerau and the Urewera returned to Rua-tahuna I gave a written order to the officer in charge of each Post they were to pass to ration them and let them stay the night - The officer at Runanga I desired to send a few men with the Urewera to the entrance of the Bush as they said they were afraid they wd. be interfered with - That is the whole thing and I consider it a precious piece of impertinence in Inspector Roberts venturing to call the attention of the authorities to such action on my part. Clearly I can do no good if such nonsense
