Letter from Lieut-Governor Eyre, to Donald McLean Esq. dated 6th. February 1850 My dear Sir, I send a messenger in with a letter for Mr. Cole, and take advantage of the opportunity to ask if you could get twenty or thirty watermelons, and the Brig to Mr. Cole's address, for the use of the ladies, who will find fruit of any kind one of the pleasantest things they could possibly have at sea. I should ask you to send , for the party is large, - charging me with the cost, and shipping of them, etc., through Mr. Cole, who will pay for them at the same time as the other things. I only got on to Wai Iti yesterday, in consequence of the tides not exactly suiting; but hope to get on about ten miles Mokau to-day. Believe me, Yours faithfully, (Signed) G. Eyre. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
