Private. Auckland 30 May 1871 Dear Mr. McLean, I send herewith a Copy of the last Telegram I received yesterday from Mr. Puckey. Hopihana the Mail Contractor has gone to Coromandel to attend a Native Land Court. Nothing more therefore will be done in the matter until your wishes are known. I attribute a great deal of the trouble, arising out of this question to the indiscreet manner in which Mr. Warbrick carried out the Contract. He appears to have deceived the Natives and the Govt. at the same time. Macky could do nothing, altho' he had his say to himself. The Natives have no faith in him whatever, since the Taupari Failure. Yours faithfully H. T. Kemp Hon. D. McLean, C. M. G. Wellington
