Kaiteriria Oct.29th 1870 Dear Colonel I have just returned from Fort Galatea where I left Captn.Preece yesterday - he also returns to the Teko today - we reached Galatea on the 23rd of this month - I have no news in particular we communicated with Ruatahuna and Ahikereru - the Uriweras are still suffering from disease - they report Te Kooti at te Wera with from 20 to 40 men - they say he does not mean to go to the Waikato at present. I think that if any movement is made to attack him that he is sure to try and slip through and unless the strip of country between this place and Orakikarako, or between the Horo Horo range and the Waikato River - is thoroughly well watched - I fear he will succeed in doing so - Mounted men are wanted here to patrol daily - directly an attacking force moves against te Kooti - Captn.Preece is suffering a good deal from boils - he was - unable to march yesterday on that account - I am about to send down three men whom I have
