Napier, Jany. 10th, 1866. Dear Spain, I do not know whether you wish to purchase or charter a small steam vessel for transport purposes. I hear that a steamer such as the Huntress is much required between Turanga and Auckland, but I do not know whether you consider it necessary for the small imperial force at Tauranga to keep a vessel for the purpose. If you do I am open to an offer for the sale or charter of the Huntress. This vessel is now in good order and repair she steams 6 to 7 Knots an hour, has new boiler, rigging, sails, masts, etc. Should you require such a Boat will you kindly drop me a line saying yes or no. Yours faithfully, (Sigd.) Donald McLean. Capt. Spain, R. M. Transport Office, Auckland.
