Dec. 5/60 Dear Sir, Mr. King will sell 10 acres, where the line is dotted, as shewn in tracing, for £20 pr. acre, or he will sell the whole of the land comprising 44 acres for £10 per acre. I told Mr. King that it would be necessary for me to see the person who desired to know on what terms a portion of the land would be sold. Matene te Whiwhi is off and by this time well out of the harbour. He was not pleased with the photographs, neither was I, and left them for the artist. There was not time for Matene to sit again, I think therefore he would be gratified by having his likeness taken in Wellington by a suggestion to that effect from yourself, bearing in mind that one be at the same time taken for yourself. Mr. Stockman, of New Plymouth, has sent up a letter praying for an enquiry into his conduct whilst in the employment of the Government, at Waitara, as Lieut. to the native irregulars -- from which appt. he says he was dismissed without any reason being assigned as a reason -- before putting a minute on his letter I shall be glad to hear from you. Nothing new -- a sail in sight. Hoping you are improving Faithfully yours H. Halse
