Wellington Jan. 12 1871 Dear Maclean I have desired Halse to send you an advertisement by the Provincial Government of Wellington of the sale of land in the Manawatu. No communications have passed between the Genl. and Prov.Governments on the subject. I call yr. attention to it, thinking that you ought to be told that the sale is about to take place - I do not know that there is any reason for deferring the sale - but in a matter of such delicacy and involving such important results I think the Provincial Government should have previously obtained your approval - You will judge whether any and what action should be taken - Unless there is positive ground for anticipating future difficulties, it will we think, be best to let the sale proceed. I shall read this to Gisborne who agrees with me. Yours very truly Henry Sewell
