Tahana, Hakopa, Wiremu Riparipa and Tamati Waka came to Barracks and entered into the charge against the latter. The Attorney General arrived overland from Wellington. 19 "Lucy James" Joyce, 2 days from Wellington, passenger Mr. Gardiner - cargo, general, received a note from you. Overland Mail from Auckland. A party of Mokau natives arrived in Town with pigs for sale. Johnson sick. 20 The Attorney General left for Auckland. 21 Court Day. Wills v. Stockman - debt, decision for plaintiff. The "Shepherdess" Swan - from Kawhia - cargo 700 bushels wheat 1 cask pork 18 sides bacon. Overland Mail left for Auckland. Received two summonses and served copies - Johnson returned to duty. The "Shepherdess" and Government boat left for Waitara - northerly weather, setting in, the former sailed for Wellington. 22 Boat returned - "Lucy James" stood to sea - wind North West. Johnson sick. 23 General muster and drill. Received a summons against B. Wicksteed and served a copy. Johnson laid an information against S. Oliver for allowing his his pigs to wander at large - case decided by Resident Magistrate without a summons fined 6d. per head with costs. Overland Mail from Wellington. Hakopa sick. 24 Parade - Police on Duty in Town. Mr. Charles Nairn came to Barracks, I gave him a note for you. "Lucy James" sailed for Manukao, passengers Mr. Gardiner and your children, Miss Montez, Mr. W. Carrington, Mr. Dr. Mole, P. Vercoe, Rhoda Wells - cargo 20 kits barley, 20 kits maize, 8 1/2 tons flour 6 hhds pork 110 sacks barley. 25 Mr. Charles Nairn left overland for Wellington. Received Warrant of Distress against J.B. White. Hakopa sick. 26 Overland Mail from Auckland - read one Gazette for you. Resident Magistrate desired a policemen to be in readiness to leave for Whanganui tomorrow morning with a despatch for the Governor-in-Chief. By Resident Magistrate's approach I called upon Private Newsham for the above service; he declined, unless placed on full pay. 27 Private Johnson left for Whanganui with a despatch for the Governor-in-Chief. Received amount of Warrant agst. J.B. White and paid same into Court. Hakopa resumed duty. 28 Attended at Police Office. Overland Mail left for Auckland. Visited watch at 11 p.m. relieved Hakopa for the night. 29 Rawiri Watino, from Massacre Bay, came to Barracks and told me he had commenced clearing land near Purakau tomo, outside the South East boundary of the Tataraimaka Block. 30 General muster and drill. Hone Ropiha and Tamati Waka came to Barracks. Newsham reported that several Ngatiruanui natives were about Mr. Wicksteed's house at Omata on Wednesday last and on the following morning two old coats and a cap were missing Te Ngahuru was informed of the robbery. Wiremu Irangi told me he intended to write to you about his Reserve at Waiwakaiho. Wiremu Kingi came to Barracks to make arrangements for the construction of a flour mill South of Warea.
