To:- D. McLean Wellington. September 9th. 1868. From Deighton, through native Wharekina, Carr's and Canning's bodies not yet buried. Two of Tamihana's people start to-day 8th. for Hau Hau's camp to ascertain news and bring bodies, absent about 8 or 10 days. No further news only a great feeling of insecurity felt both by Europeans and natives. Deighton lays great stress upon the latter. Natives still at Puketapu. (Signed) Edward L. Green.
