H.B.S.B. Establishment West Clive 30th. Jany. 1869 Dear McLean, It would be a convenience to this Establishment if we had a Bush license chiefly for the sale of beer but not exclusively, as Spirits would be occasionally wanted whilst boiling down was going on. We are now employing a good many hands and they would be better kept at home than going to throw away their earnings and making themselves unfit for work. I would have a little Cottage appropriated to the purpose and the license might be in my name to ensure control. Of you see no objection to this will you kindly let it be done. Yours very truly, A.H. Russell. N.B. We could not afford to pay much for the license.
