My dear Carter Finding that several of my friends are anxious that I should allow myself to be proposed for the office of Superintendant, I am desirous before giving a decided ansewer to know from you whether in the event of your not getting the support of a majority of the Council, you would consider it an any way prejudicial to your interests my accepting the office should their choice falling upon me. I should not like to resist the wishes of the Council if requested to take the office, at the same time
