Napier, Feb. 28th, 1871. My dear McLean, This letter is about that confounded Mangateretere. Since I wrote you last I have had several communications with Hart and I think I have gathered his opinion of the position of the case. He has little doubt of your liability for the rent under that precious Deed of Mortgage which Cuff prepared. He wants you to re-assign that mortgage but he tells me that will not free you from any liability incurred prior to the execution of the re-assignment. That is to say Hart views you liable
