Capt. Hardy, who commanded the party sent to burn the houses, would not allow sufficient time to remove all furniture, and in consequence of which, credited to the amount of Twenty pounds, were consumed, amongst others, twenty-six bushels of wheat and barley. The very bed I slept on was torn down, because time would not be allowed to send for a key to take it to pieces. Indeed, had it not been for the assistance of Mr. Harrison and some others of my friends, I should have lost nearly all the houses contained at the time, the soldiers not offering any assistance. Since the destruction of my premises, I have been paying at the rate of £25 per annum of house rent. (Signed) M. Campbell.
