Government House, New Zealand, 6 Oct. 73 My dear Mr. McLean, Captain Goodenough has offered me a passage to Auckland in the "Pearl", of which I should like to avail myself. Perhaps it could be arranged without inconvenience to you that I should pay my visit to Taranaki and Wanganui on my return. The "Pearl" will sail about 4 days after the "Clio" arrives and I think we shall know, as soon as the next Melbourne steamer makes the first port, when that is likely to be. Believe me yours sincerely, James Fergusson P. S. I have just received your note of today. I suppose the visit to Raglan could be made at any time from Auckland otherwise it is all on the way between Manakau and Taranaki. I am in your hands as to such visits. You are right in believing that I hate all ceremony.
