Letter from Saml. Popham King. to Donald McLean Esq. dated Sept. 29. (1851 ?) Monday, Sept. 29. I have just received the parcel from the "Lucy James", containing the "Penny Cyclopaedea", Waverley Illustrations. The forms are very well done, and accurately marked, the earlier volumes, but the latter is not so handsomely bound as I desired. I intended it should be a nice looking book for the parlour, or drawing-room table; but "there's no help for spilt milk." All shall be sent to Henry Holin's to-morrow. What a rumpus Aldine (?) is kicking up about the flag-staff. I am told me and the Captain were bearding one another about it at some Meeting last week. This moon has brought us lovely weather. I was utterly sick of the Taranaki climate last two months. very faithfully yours, (Signed) Saml. Popham King. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
