Well-Attended Sunday Concert

A queue of people about 50 yards long formed up at St. James Theatre, Wellington, last night, before the doors were opened for the concert given by the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force in aid of the Kingsford Smith memorial ambulance fund. Conducted by Flight Lieutenant Gladstone Hill, the 50 members of the band presented , a varied programme of music, each item receiving warm applause from a most appreciative audience. The 13 items on the programme were as follows: March, “Stars and Stripes for Ever” (Sousa) ; overture, “Morning, Noon and Night” (Suppe) ; instrumental duo, “Lo Hear the Gentle Lark” (Bishop) ; chorus. “Hallelujah,” from “Messiah” (Handel) ; cornet duo, “Two Jolly Boys” (Farrell) ; hymn, “Deep Harmony” (Handel-Par-ker) ; instrumental trio, “Hungarian Dance No. 5” (Brahms) ; violin solo, “Czardas” (Monti) ; novelty, “The Band Came Late” ; rhapsody, “Slavonic Rhapsody” (Friedmann) ; patriotic number. “Britannia,” the drum corps; trombone solo. “Lend Me. Your Aid” (Gounod) : Grand Overture Sollennelle, “1812” (Tschaikowsky).
