AWARD TO N.Z. AIRMEN
Distinguished Flying Medal
Official advice has been received by Air Headquarters, Wellington, that two more New Zealand airmen serving overseas, have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. They are : — Sergeant William Jack Scott (next-of-kin, mother, Mrs. G. A Scott, Manga - teparu, Morrinsville). Sergeant Reginald Joseph Cowan Grant (next-of-kin, sister, Miss Vera Grant, Ponsonby Club Hotel, Auckland).
The citations accompanying the awards state: —
“Sergeant R. J. C. Giant has taken part in 22 operations over enemy territory, during which he has destroyed two enemy aircraft and damaged several others. His keenness and devotion to duty have set an excellent example.” “An R.A.F. pilot and Sergeant W. J. Scott, as pilot and air-gunner respectively, fave achieved conspicuous success during night fighting operations. One night in April. 1941, a Heinkel 111 was encountered and destroyed, and since then a further three enemy aircraft have been destroyed, of which two were shot down during the same patrol. During these operations both the pilot and sergeant have displayed great skill and determination.’’
