"The first of these,” he said, “is the invalided person’s badge, which will be issued to personnel invalided through war service from the armed forces and Merchant Marine. The badge is similar in design to that adopted in the United Kingdom. It is circular and bears a cypher of the Sovereign surrounded by the words, ‘For Loyal Service,’ and is of pattern easily distinguishable from that issued during the last war. The badge will be issued by the department concerned and applications should not be forwarded by individuals. “The second badge, which will be issued to men serving in the Merchant Navy, bears the letters ‘MN’ surmounted by a naval crown. This will serve as recognition of the important par' played by men of the Merchant Navy in maintaining vital supplies. The badges are at present being manufactured. It will not be necessary for ap plications to be made by individuals as the Marine Department is arranging for the issue of badges to all seamen.’
