ACTIVITY IN THREE CENTRES.

Mobilised in the Northern Military District under the new training

scheme for the Territorial Force are at present about 1300 officers, noncommissioned officers and men, and in the following few months when the men of other units are called up a still larger number will be in training. Close on 700 officers, non-commis-sioned officers and men of an ipfantry unit, the Ist Battalion, Auckland Regiment- (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel C. P. Worley, V.D., , are to-day in the second week of their three months’' training, two months of which they will be at Alexandra Park, Epsom, while living at their homes, and the third month they will spend under canvas in the park. Prior to taking over the training of the battalion the officers . and non-commissioned officers were one month in the District School, Narrow Neck. ■ • - • • •

Artillery and Engineers. To Ngaruawahia camp, have gone over 200 officers and non-commission-ed officers of the artillery units, the Ist Field Regiment (Lieutenant-Col-onel F. C. Soar, E.D.), and the 7th Battery of the Bth Medium Regiment (Captain F. M. Yendall), and the Ist Field , Company of Engineers (SecondLieutenants R. T. Toy and C. M. Taylor). On July 1 they began a course extending over two months. In September they will return to their home centres —Auckland in the case of the Ist Field Regiment and Ist Field Company, and Hamilton in the case of some of the 7th . Battery train their men for a month. During . October and November all ranks will be in camp. To the city—District School, Narrow Neck—have come about 350 officers and non-commissioned officers of the three country infantry units—the Ist Battalions of the Hauraki (Lieu-.tenant-Colonel B. R. Penlington), North Auckland (Lieutenant-Colonel A. D. Jack, M.C., E.D.), and the Waikato Regiments (Lieutenant-Colonel E. M. Mackersey). They, in addition to officers and non-commissioned officers of the Auckland Company of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment (Lieutenant P. A. Tarelton), will be in the school for three month's’ intensive training, after which the men of the units will be mobilised for three months’ camp. Other Northern Military District units, such as the Auckland (East Coast) Mounted Rifles, • Waikato Mounted Rifles, North Auckland Motorised Regiment, Ist Composite Company of the Army Service Corps, Northern District Signal Company and Ist Field Ambulance of the Medical Corps will be proceeding to camp from next month onward. It has not yet been decided in which camps the units will be accommodated.
