Inquests.

An inquest was held on the 10th of February last, at the Pyramids Hotel, Pyramids, by J. N. Wood, Esquire, R.M. and Coroner, on the body of a man, name unknown (supposed to be William Currie, who, it is believed, was drowned on the 17th December last while endeavouring to ford the Waikaia river, near Switzers, on horseback), which was found in the "Mataura river, at Knap dale, on the Bth of February. Verdict —Found drowned.

An inquest was held on the 19th of February last, at the North-Western Hotel, Palmerston, by J. W. Murdoch, Esq., B.M. and Coroner, on the body of Thomas Spence, a labourer, aged 20 years, who was killed on the day previous at Palmerston, by the wheel of a dray which he was driving passing over his neck. —Accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the 9th ultimo, at the Court House, Arrowtown, by H. A. Stratford, Esquire, B.M. and Coroner, on the body of a fully developed female child with four punctured wounds in the head, supposed to have been dead between two and four months, which was found in a lozenge tin in a water hole known as Barracouta shaft, near Arrowtown, on that day. Verdict —Wilful murder against some person or persons unknown.

Mayhew, a dentist and woodcutter, aged 21 years, whose body was found in Akatore Bush on the day previous, where he i s supposed to have died on the 2nd or 3rd ultimo. Verdict: Died while in a state of temporary insanity induced by exposure and intemperance.

An inquest was held on the 11th ultimo, at the Saddle Hill Hotel, Saddle Hill, by T. M. Hocken Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Ah Thung, a shopkeeper, aged 35 years, who was killed there on the 9th ultimo by being thrown from a coach, which capsized. Verdict: Accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the 16th ultimo, at the Lunatic Asylum, Dunedin, by T. M. Hock on Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Isaac Coxhead, a butcher, aged 45 years, who died there on the previous day. Verdict: Died from general paralysis.

An inquest was held on the 17th ultimo, at the Hospital, Invercargill, by Thomas Perkins, Esquire, J.P. and acting Coroner, on the skeleton of a male person, minus hands and feet, two teeth wanting in front of mouth, supposed to be 30 years old, which was found in the New Diver on the 14th ultimo. Verdict: That the remains are those of a male person, middle age, but how and by what means death was caused, or to whom the said remains belong, there is not sufficient evidence to show. The remains are believed to be David McArthers, who was drowned at the Perry, New Diver, on the 20th December last.

An -inquest was held on the 23rd ultimo, at the Commercial Hotel, Milton, by .1. P. Maitland, Esquire, E.M. and Coroner, on the body of Patrick Connor, a railway labourer, aged 16 years, who was killed on the day previous at South Tokomairiro by a railway truck, in which he was travelling, falling upon him. Verdict: Accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the 30th ultimo, at North East Harbour, Peninsula, near Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Simon Thomas Cooper, a miner, aged 25 years, who was killed there on the day previous while at work in a quarry, by a quantity of stone falling upon him. Verdict: Accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the Ist instant, at the Court House, Port Chalmers, by David ODonaghue, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of George Smith, a labourer, aged 54 years, who was killed on the day previous by a fall of earth while at work in a cutting in George-street, Port Chalmers. Verdict: Accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the 6th instant at the Lunatic Asylum, Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken Esquire, Coroner, on the body of James Simpson, a miner, aged 50 years, who died there on the day previous. Verdict : Died from paralysis.

An inquest was held on the 9th instant, at the Lunatic Asylum, Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken, Esquire, Coroner, on the body ef Henry Lutzen, a miner, aged 42 years, who died thereon the 6th instant Verdict: Died of exhaustion consequent on acute mania.
