An inquest was held on the 2nd ultimo at the West Taieri Hotel, Outram, by James Fulton, Esquire, B.M. and Coroner, on the body of Henry Sutherland, a seaman and labourer, aged 20 years, who was drowned while bathing in the Taieri river at East Taieri on the 29th of December last. Verdict: Accidentally drowned.

Hocken, Esqu;re, Coroner, on the ■ body of Catherine Byder, a prostitute, aged 40 years, who died there on the day previous from the effects of injuries sustained by being thrown down an embankment in Clark street, Dunedin, on the 14th ultimo by a man, name unknown. Verdict: Manslaughter against a man, name unknown.

An inquest was held on the 26th ultimo at the Hospital, Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of James Amos Holmes, a pigdealer, aged 25 years, who was stabbed by John Walter in the left side with a knife at North East Valley, Dunedin, on the 24th ultimo, from the effects of which he died on the following day. Verdict: Manslaughter against John Walter. Walter has been arrested and committed for trial.

An inquest was held on the Ist instant at the Hospital, Dunedin, by T. M. Hoeken, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Charles L. Adams, a cordial manufacturer, aged 38 years, who died suddenly on the previous day in the Shamrock Hotel, Battray street, Dunedin. Verdict: Died of fits appertaining to apoplexy.

An inquest was held on the Ist instant at Eichardt’s Hotel, Queenstown, by B. Beetham, Esquire, BM. and Coroner, on the body of Charles Murray, a miner, aged 53 years, who died on the previous day on Lake Wakatipu, while being conveyed from Moke Creek to Prankton Hospital.
