Inquests.

An inquest was held on the 3rd ultimo, at the Roxburgh Ferry Hotel, Roxburgh, by J. B. Borton, Esq., R.M. and Coroner, on the skeleton of a man with dark brown hair, name unknown, which was found near the top of the Old Man Range on the 30th January, 1873. Verdict—Found dead.

An inquest was held on the 7th instant at the Hospital, Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Alexander Steel, a horse dealer, aged 38 years, who died there on the day previous from the effects of injuries sustained while wrestling with William McDonald, at Dunedin, on. the 28th ultimo. Verdict—Died from rupture of the bladder, accidentally caused by William McDonald when wrestling.

An inquest was held on the 4th instant, at the Star and Garter Hotel, Oamaru, by T. W. Parker, Esq., R.M. and Coroner, on the body of a man (name unknown, but supposed to be James Lyons), whose body was found in the Oamaru Creek, at Oamaru, on that day, and who, it is supposed, had fallen into the creek about a week previous and was drowned. Verdict Found drowned.

Deceased appeared to be a miner, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, slight active build, sandy hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, thin features, no marks on body; was dressed in a light brown tweed coat and vest, dark colored woollen vest worn over tweed vest, shepherd’s plaid shirt, moleskin trousers, watertight boots, and red-aud-black woollen comforter round the neck.

An inquest was held on the 17th instant, at the Hospital, Invercargill, by F. A. Monckton, Esq., Coroner, on the' body of Samuel Salter, a laborer, aged 50 years, who died there on the previous day from the effects of injuries sustained by falling into a boiler of boiling water, at the Meat Preserving Works, Woodlands, on the 15th instant. Verdict —Accidental death.

An inquest was held on the 20th instant, at the Hospital, Invercargill, by F. A. Monckton, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Thomas Young, a bushman, aged 33 years, who died there on the previous day from the effects of injuries received by a tree falling upon him while engaged felling timber in Seaward For it, Bluff Road, on the 19th instant. Verdict— Acc> entally killed by a tree falling upon him. V

Smith, Esq , Coroner, on the body of John Duff, a shoemaker, aged 48 years, whose body was found hung by the neck from a tree in Puerua Bush, near Port Molyneux, on the day previous. Verdict—That deceased committed suicide by hanging himself about the 26th December, 1872, while laboring under temporary insanity.
