March 1. There was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at the Cathedral yesterday from the last Mass until after Vespers. His Lordship the Bishop administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to a large number of children at Ellerslie on Sunday. Very Rev. Dean Regnault, S.M., and Rev. Father Coffey were the guests of his Lordship the Bishop last week. They attended the Hibernian meetings, and left to-day for Rotorua. Rev. Father O’Malley, of the Cathedral, has been transferred to Ponsonby to assist Rev. Father Cahill. He took leave of the Cathedral parishioners last evening at the close of his sermon. The southern representatives to the district meeting of > the Hibernian Society were shown over the Catholic institutions by the local members. These included the Bishop’s Palace, Mount St. Mary’s (where the orphans lined up and sang spirited Irish airs), the Sacred Heart Convent (Remuera), and finally Cornwall Park. Rev. Father Golden, who has been for some time stationed at the Sacred Heart Church, Ponsonby, leaves next Tuesday for Gisborne, where he will assume the charge of this important parish during the absence of Rev. Father Lane, who is leaving Gisborne on March 25 on an extended holiday to Ireland and the Continent. The Gisborne people are to be heartily congratulated on securing the services of so sterling a worker as Father Golden. A Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated in the Cathedral last Tuesday by his. Lordship Dr. Cleary for the repose of the soul of the late Bishop Lenihan. Right Rev. Mgr. Gillan, V.G., was assistant priest, Very Rev. Father Holbrook deacon, Rev. Father Doyle subdeacon, and Rev.' Father O’Malley master of ceremonies. Rev. Fathers Cahill, Tormey, Kirrane, and McLaughlin were present in the sanctuary.. The absolution at the catafalque was given by his 'Lordship. The solemn music was rendered by a choir consisting of Right Rev. Mgr. Brodie, V.G., Rev. Fathers Patterson, Furlong, Ormond, and Forde, and Messrs. J. H. Egan and P. B. Darby. Mr. P. F. Hiscocks conducted, and Mr. Harry Hiscocks presided at the organ.
