(From our pwn correspondent.) ' ■ February 27. ; The annual conference of the goldfields’ , Catholic clubs takes place this year at Hamilton, commencing on

Easter Saturday. The local club, who did so creditably last season, are much stronger this year, and are confident of again carrying off premier honors. - At a meeting of St. Mary’s Young Men’s Club on Friday week the annual balance sheet was presented. The position disclosed was very satisfactory, and the late executive deserve credit for the business-like manner in which they conducted the affairs of the club. At the same meeting it was decided to reduce the annual subscription from 12s to ss. As a result of this substantial reduction, it is expected that practically every man in the parish will become a member. Every day during the mission the number of Communicants increased, until on Sunday, February 15, a total of 206 approached the Holy Table at the early Mass, and the number for the mission reached over 1700, which, for the size of the town, is much greater than might have been expected. On Sunday night, Father Cre&gh made a final appeal to the people to persevere in the good resolutions made during this time of grace. During the mission Father Creagh made a special appeal on behalf of the H.A.C.B. Society, and the sodality of Children of Mary, with the result that at a special meeting, held for the purpose on Sunday morning, twenty-five new members of the H.A.C.B. Society were initiated, and many young ladies intimated their intention of joining the sodality. *
