INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.

Sydney.—A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Thomas Glassop for embezzling £9, money of the Ashfield Municipal Council. He is fifty years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high, fair hair turning grey, dark greyish-blue eyes, pale complexion, smart appearance; usually dresses in tweed suit, hard black hat, silk watch-guard; supposed to have left Sydney for New Zealand on 2nd instant: Arrest desired. Sydney.—lnquiry requested for Clement Smith, age about twenty-four, looks older, height about 5 ft. 4 in., clerk, dark hair and eyes, straight nose, fond of drink. He left Sydney about two years ago for New Zealand, and was employed at the Empire Hotel, Wellington, as waiter, up to the 22nd May, 1906. He was also employed at Christchurch, hawking fancy goods for a man named Lousier, and cleared out without accounting for same. When in Christchurch he boarded at Cockayne’s, Manchester Street, and left there owing £9 for lodging. Inquiry by his wife, Mary Smith, Annandale, New South Wales. (06/2450.)

Moss Vale. —A warrant has been issued by the Moss Vale Bench for the arrest of Edward Collins, charged with failing to make adequate provision for the payment of preliminary expenses incidental to the birth of a child. He is twenty-five years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in. high, medium build, dark-brown hair and moustache, blue eyes, black mark on right eye (partly covering pupil), the result of an accident; dressed in a dark-tweed coat with a narrow white stripe in it, brown vest and trousers, and dark-grey felt hat with light band ; a labourer. Supposed to have gone to Sydney, from whence he may endeavour to go to New Zealand. Complainant, Lily May Pitts, Mittagong. (See Neiv South Wales Police Gazette, 1907, page 92.)

Paddington. —A warrant has been issued by the Paddington Bench for the arrest of Henry Brewster Mclntosh, charged with wife-desertion (indictable offence). He is forty-two years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, stout build, dark hair and complexion, clean-shaved, brown eyes; a journalist. Supposed to be in Wellington, New Zealand. Complainant, Minnie Mclntosh, “ Adna,” Forth Street, Woollahra. (See New South Wales Police Gazette, 1907, page 63.)

Melbourne.—lnquiry requested by Clara Bertram for her husband, C. A. Bertram, known as Con Bertram, a barman or billiard-marker, blue eyes, fair complexion, dark curly hair, small moustache curled at ends, wears a thin goldwire ring on third right finger, which is deformed at top; wears button-up patent-leather boots ; may have come to New Zealand about January last accompanied by a woman named Alice Margaret Cord well. Thomas Almond, age about forty-three, height about 5 ft. 8 in., sallow complexion, grey hair dyed brown, moustache only (also dyed a brown colour), blue eyes, eyelids slightly granulated, was formerly employed as an engine-driver in South Australia, female tattooed on each forearm, a five-pointed star on one forearm; dressed in black-cloth Beaufort coat, black trousers, dark fancy vest, square-topped black hard hat, sometimes wears smoked glasses, may wear blue sac coat, cricketting shirt, and grey-felt hat; had with him six cases of luggage,

including almost all his wife’s clothing. Supposed to be accompanied by Mrs. Flavel, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 10 in., dark complexion, brown hair, long features, blue eyes, stiff gait. Inquiry by his wife, who has been left destitute. (07/598.)
