Inquest.

Wanganui. —On the 20th instant, at 6 a.m., the body of a man was found floating in the Wanganui River near the Cattle Wharf by John and Henry Hood when fishing. Dr. ITatherley made an examination, and stated that the body was about three weeks in the water ; and at an inquest held the following verdict was returned : “ That deceased met his death by drowning, but there was no evidence to show how he came into the water.” Description of deceased : About fifty-five or sixty years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, stout build, square-shouldered, about 14 stone weight, fresh complexion, full face, grizzly hair cub short, olean-shaved except grey beard and moustache; dressed in dark-tweed sac coat and vest, brown saddle-tweed trousers, and lace-up boots, dark cotton shirt with lighter stripes running through it; was wearing a silver lever hunting-watch, maker Rotherham, London, No. T 2 xg , with silver chain attached, cable-link pattern, with common watch-key at end; match-box and common wooden-hafted pocket-knife; four silk handkerchiefs—a mauve, a white, a brown, and a white and brown ; seemed to have the appearance of one employed about hotels or stations. Photograph of deceased was taken in the morgue, and is filed in the Inspector’s office, Wanganui. Information obtained concerning deceased should be forwarded to the Inspector of Police, Wanganui, without delay.
