Detective G. Fitzgerald, No. 502, and Constable C. Dalton, No. 759, Timaru police, have been awarded £3 10s. each for arrest of Henry J. O’Rourke, No. 453, Otaki police, has been awarded £5 for services in obtaining the conviction of William Wise for sly-grog selling at Paraparaumu. (02/75.) Constables J. Fraser, No. 807, and E. H. Law, No. 133, have been awarded £l2 and £5 respectively by the Customs Department for services in obtaining the conviction of Robert Barlow Ferguson, fined £IOO at Coromandel for bsing the owner of an unlicensed still. (01/735.) The following amounts have been awarded to the Port Chalmers police for services in obtaining the oonviction of W. Dyer for smuggling opium : Constable D. Clothing.

(Circular No. 8/02.) 1. Clothing issued to members of the Force will be inspected as follows, viz.: At headquarter stations when men are paraded to receive their monthly pay, and at outstations either by the officers in charge of districts, or by the sergeants in charge of sub-districts when making their periodical visits. The object of the inspection is to insure that the clothing is kept clean and in good condition. 2. In the event of any member dying or leaving the service, the following articles of the last free issue to such member are to be obtained and returned to the Police Storekeeper, Wellington, by officers in charge of districts, viz.:—

Coats, night duty. Coats, waterproof (mounted or foot) Helmets. Leggings. Shakos.

The usual receipt and delivery vouchers, together with a memorandum showing the names of the members from whom the articles were obtained, and dates of issue, should be sent to the Storekeeper at the same time. 3. After the first free issue of clothing, buttons for jumpers will not be issued except to men who have had only one issue of clothing on joining the Force. In all other cases it is expected that the buttons will be transferred from wornout jumpers to the new issue. This will permit of eaoh man having two sets of buttons. J. B.
