Auckland. Wilson and Horton, printers, report that between the 12th and 14th ultimo the New Zealand Herald office was broken into, and £l3 in notes, gold, and silver stolen from a cash-box in a drawer of the publishing office; the drawer had apparently been forced open with a chisel.

Auckland.— John Tooman, storeman, reports stolen from Arthur Tooman’s Auction Mart, Queen Street, on the 2nd instant, a silver lever hunting-watch, No. 56991, maker Stewart Dawson, a silver curb chain with bar missing attached ; value, £3 9s. 6d.

Kennedy, Auokland police, and the stolen property recovered. Offender is identical with Puhipi Matiu (see Police Gazette, 1900, page 111).

Onehunga. —Roy Hall, storekeeper, Mangere, reports that on the 2nd instant his store was broken into and the following stolen : About 101 b. Derby, 181 b. Ascot, 1 lb. Columbia, 1 lb. Golden Eagle, 2 lb. Ruby Twist, 4 lb. Venus, and about 1 lb. Capstan tobacco ; about 100 cigars ; about 38 packages Otto-de-Rose, 36 packages Old Judge, and 34 packages Three Castle cigarettes : total value, £ls 16s. 6d.

Karangahake. —On the 27th or 28th ultimo there was stolen from the precipitator’s room at the Waihi Goldmining Company’s reduction - works gold (since recovered), value about £7OO. Entrance was effected through the skylight, and a small crowbar was found inßide the room.

Tauranga. —William T. Raymond, auctioneer, reports stolen from the Tauranga Auction Mart, on the 22nd ultimo, a brown - coloured violin, black wood keys, wood bridge, two bows, enclosed in black wood case ; value, £l.

Hastings. —Frederick Smith, shunter, reports stolen from the lamp-room at the railway-station, on the 14th instant, a long blue corded-worsted overcoat with long cape buttoned on, bluish-plaid lining, two side pockets, lining and sides of pockets torn ; value, £2 10s.

Waipawa. —Maurice Flynn, storekeeper, Hampden, reports that on the 28th ultimo his store was broken into, and the following stolen : A pair of ladies’ black boots, size 5 ; a pair of ladies’ tan shoes, size 5; two men’s dancing-shoes, odd sizes (4 and 5); about sixty packets Old Judge, Vanity Fair, and Capstan cigarettes; two 4 oz. and two 2 oz. tins Capstan tobacco; and 7s. 6d. Sydney, of Indian parents, a ooolie, a cook and rabbiter, twenty-four years of age, 5 ft. 2 in. high, slim build, very black complexion and hair; usually dressed in light-grey suit and straw hat with coloured band.

Palmerston North. —Theodore Barclay, storekeeper, reports that on the 13th or 14th instant his shop was broken into and the following stolen : Four cream-coloured tennisshirts, two with blue and pink stripes and two with lightcream silk stripes, marked “ Cambridge ” ; two pairs of trousers, one hair-lined striped tweed, the other brown-grey saddle-cloth tweed, marked “ Wellington Woollen Company ” ; a suit of brownish-coloured tweed, supposed size 4 : some of the shirts may have name “ Barclay, Dunstone,” at back of collar : total value, £5 Bs. 6d.

Palmerston North. —David Pringle, saddler, reports that on the 13th or 14th instant his shop was broken into and the following stolen: A brown-leather kit-bag, size about 22in., marked B/c/h in ink ; two brown-leather Gladstone bags, size 22 in., marked B/e/h; three Gladstone bags, one size 20 in. marked 33/c, two size 18in. marked B/c/h; a brown-leather Excelsior brief-bag, size 18 in., marked o/a, and a brown-leather brief bag, size 16 in. marked E/t: total value, £lO 10s. 6d.

Petone. —Claremont Wilson Walker, hawker, Molesworth Street, Wellington, reports supposed stolen from the Petone Railway-station, on the 29th ultimo, six inlaid gilt brooches set with imitation emeralds, eight gilt brooches; eight bangles, some set with imitation emeralds; five sets of fancy gilt studs, six plain sleeve-links, four gilt and fourteen bone collar-studs : total value, £4 11s. Identifiable.

Wellington. —John W. Bennett, settler, Masterton, reports stolen from the platform of the railway-station, Maston, on the 22nd ultimo, a brown-leather Gladstone bag, 2 ft. by Ift., with two straps, “ J. W. Bennett ” marked on outside, containing a suit of grey clothes, a pair of whiteflannel pants, six white shirts, eight white collars; a white singlet, marked B; three pairs of socks, one pair brown, not marked ; five white handkerohiefs, marked J. 8.; three white-silk handkerchiefs, one marked D; a blue-silk handkerchief ; a set of 9-carat studs and links ; a Bengal razor, W.F.C.A. on blade; a strop and shaving - stick; a redleather purse containing two £1 notes, numbers unknown; a promissory note for £3 payable to J. W. McCiae, Masterton ; Cassell’s Latin Dictionary, Cassell’s French Dictionary, Caesar’s Gallic War, Horace’s Epistles, Salisbury’s Frenoh Literature, Flavet’s French Composition, Taine’s Voyages, Racine’s Phedre, Moliere’s Bourgeois Gentilhomme, Le Misantrophe, Brachet’s French Grammar, Hall’s Algebra, Locke’s Trigonometry, Hall and Stevens’s Euclid, Arnold’s Aid to Latin Composition (Russian-leather cover); “ J. W. Bennett ” written in numerous places on books : total value, £2l Bs. 3d. All identifiable exoept the two £1 notes.

Wellington. —George Fairchild, commercial traveller, reports stolen from off his bicycle at the Drill-shed, on the 16th instant, an acetylene-gas bicycle-lamp, German make, two cracks in the glass somewhat resembling the letter W ; value, 15s. Identifiable.

Wellington. —Wah Lee, fruiterer, Thorndon Quay, reports that on the 29th ultimo his shop was broken into and the following stolen : Three half-sovereigns, £5 in silver done up in packages of £1 each, a number of threepenny-pieces, and some coppers. Not identifiable.

Wellington. —The Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company report stolen from their goods-shed, on the 25th or 26th ultimo, a 30 lb. box of Derby tobacco consigned by P. Hayman and Co. to F. Walkley, Manukau, on box ; value, £B.

Manners Street (Wellington). William Burnett, draper, reports stolen from his shop-door, on the 27th ultimo, a new fawn-coloured mackintosh coat, brown velvet collar, no seam in back, small slit at each side, two side pockets, a ticket pocket, chain tab, crossed flags on the inside at shoulders, sewn throughout; value, £2 10s.

Clyde Quay (Wellington). —Henry St. Clair, Wellington Club, reports stolen from the Foresters’ Hall, Tory Street, on the 9th or 10th instant, a blue Melton cloth threequarter overooat, a small slit on each side, and a piece of silk let in on each side of the collar; value, £5 ss.

Mount Cook (Wellington). —Mary Ann Curry, grocer, reports stolen from her shop, on the 2nd or 3rd instant, 7 lb. Juno tobacco; value, £1 17s. 6d. Not identifiable.

Westport. —On the 10th or 11th instant there was stolen from the Westport Hasbour Board Office a pair of marine binocular glasses, size -s£in. closed, 6£in. fully extended, 2§ in. diameter of rim of largest end, “ W. Littlejohn and Son, Wellington,” engraved on small end, dark moroccoleather casing, somewhat worn, exposing the brass ; value, £4 4s. Identifiable. The s.s. “ Wainui ” sailed direct for Wellington, and the “ Mawhera ” vid Nelson and Picton, on the 10th instant, and the glasses may have been taken aboard.

Christchurch. —Elizabeth Briden, tailoress, roports stolen from outside Strange and Co.’s premises, Lichfield Street, on the Ist instant, a ladies’ black-enamelled Raglan bicycle, No. 37353, in use about two years, Brook’s B saddle ; value, £ls. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —Eliza Livingstone, milliner, reports stolen on the Ist ultimo a ladies’ fawn-coloured cape with green shot-silk lining, and a black sunshade with silver-mounted handle; value, £4 6s. ; identifiable. Kurow. Sarah Hutton, Maerewhenua, reports stolen from a paddock, between the 15th June and Ist ultimo, seventeen sacks of Danish oats, saoks branded J.H.; total value, £5 10s.

Mosely, farmer, reports stolen, on the 3rd or 4th instant, a black-and-tan collie dog, about two years old, roughish hair, rather large head, answers to the name of “ Don ” ; value, £lO. Suspicion attached to Albert Saleman or Solomon, who was in complainant’s employ, and left him on the 27th ultimo. Description : A native of Opoho, Dunedin, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, medium build, dark hair, clean-shaved except small dark moustache, fresh complexion, large Jewish Roman nose, very large ears, large brownish eyes ; was wearing a dark-tweed coat and vest, light-tweed trousers, and dark-tweed cap. (See Police Gazette, 1899, page 105.) Cromwell. — Frederick Nash is charged on warrant, issued at Dunedin, with the thefc of a watch from Robert McCarrigan on the 27th April, 1899. Description : A native of Christchurch, thirty-three years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. or 6 in. high, sallow complexion, large nose, may be clean-shaved except small dark moustache. The watch was pawned in Dunedin and traced to the possession of Nash, who may be employed on a station as a rabbiter.

Otautau. —Donald McNeil, storekeeper, reports stolen from his yard, between the 28th and 30th ultimo, a fishingrod, 15 ft. long, brass-mounted, three joints, spliced and fastened with waxed thread at centre joint and near the top, a medium-sized reel, silk and hair line, and a brown transparent minnow ; value, £l.

Invercargill. —Edward George Undrill, draper, reports that on the 7th instant his shop was broken into, and 15s. lid. in silver and coppers stolen from the till.
