Whangaroa.— Theft from Charles Everitt’s whare : Hone Pekare, Henare Poutatu, Hemi Tomo, and Makarina Tupe have been arrested for this offence by Constable A. G. Douthett, Whangaroa polioe, and committed for trial. Two flannel shirts recovered.

(See Police Gazette, 1900, page 220.) Waipu. —Frank Cullen’s dwelling broken into : Thomas Jaokson, alias Peter Hennessey, and George Augustus Vincent have been arrested for this offence by Constable T. H. H. Beddek, Hikurangi police, and committed for trial.

Gisborne. —William Smith, le-bourer, reports stolen from his bedroom in Menzies’s boarding-house, between the 29th ultimo and 3rd instant, two £5 notes on the Bank of New Zealand, Nos. A 071123 and A 057126, and two £1 notes on the above bank, numbers unknown.

Opotiki. —Newton Fair, hotelkeeper, reports stolen from his bedroom on the 2nd instant a cash-box containing a gold watch and chain, value £ls; two sovereigns, two halfsovereigns, one £5 note, twenty-five £1 notes, nine pounds in silver, and various documents; the notes were nearly all on the Bank of New Zealand, numbers unknown. The cashbox has since been found broken open ; the watch and chain, a sovereign, twenty-four shillings, and all the documents were left in it. Maoris suspected.

Wanganui. —J. G. Sharpe, farmer, reports stolen from him at the Palmerston Railway-station on the 15th instant a chamois-leather purse containing about ten £1 notes, a half-sovereign, and a cheque on the Bank of New Zealand, Wanganui, for £6 4s. 6d., drawn by George Randall, in favour of complainant. Cheque and purse only identifiable.

Wellington. —James McDonald reports stolen from his bedroom in the Steamboat Restaurant on the 7th instant a silver Waltham hunting-watch, number unknown, a gold chain attached, with long links, a small ring connecting each link; value, £7 17s. 6d.; identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who slept in the same room with the complainant. Description: Supposed English, thirty-five to forty years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, rather slight build, dark complexion and hair, heavy dark moustache only; dressed in black sac coat and vest and hard black hat.

Manners Street (Wellington). —Thomas Dwyer, clerk, reports stolen from his bedroom in the Private Hotel, Ingestre Street, on the 9th instant, a new pair of lace-up tan boots, Arrow brand, size 8; and a tan vest with fancy buttons, flaps on pockets, value £2 10s. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who slept in the same room on the Bth instant and left next morning. Description : Supposed English, about thirty-five years of age, medium height, fair complexion; dressed in navy-blue serge suit; respectable appearance.

Mount Cook (Wellington). —Bernard Whiteford, labourer, Adelaide Road, reports that between the 27th ultimo and the 9th instant his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : A round American alarm-clock ; two coloured striped shirts, size 16 ; two pink-flannel shirts ; two glass photo-graph-frames ; a pair of boys’ tan shoes, size 13, in good order; and Burns’s poems, “B. Whiteford ” written inside : value, £1 14s.

Reefton. —John Dunlop, miner, reports stolen from his tent, on the Bth or 9th instant, one £5 note, a £1 note, a halfsovereign, and a florin. Numbers of notes unknown ; not identifiable.

Christchurch. —Mary Ann Vietoh reports stolen from the passage of her boarding-house, South Belt, between the Ist and 4th instant, a nearly new fawn-coloured covert-coat, the buttons under the oollar torn out, “ A. Begg ” on the tab, value £3. Suspicion attached to a man who was seen in the passage at 4 a.m. on tho 2nd instant. Description: About twenty-two years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high, medium build, clean-shaved; dressed in dark suit and tweed cap. Identification doubtful.

Christchurch. Acton Adams, barrister, 149, Cashel Street, reports stolen from him at Riccarton, on the 10th instant, a red-leather purse with five oompartments, fastened with a clasp, containing ten sovereigns and some papers. Purse only identifiable.

Christchurch. —Henry Parata, jun., Peterborough Street, reports stolen from him at the Riccarton Racecourse, on the 3rd instant, four £5 notes, numbers and bank unknown.

Christchurch. —J. C. Arohibold, No. 35, Walker Street, reports stolen from him at the Addington Showgrounds, on the 9th instant, a brown-leather pooket - book, with brass clasp, “J. C. Archibald ” stamped inside, containing two receipts, no money ; value, 7s. 6d.

Christchurch. —Robert Fletcher, labourer, Homebush, Ricoarton, reports stolen from him at the railway-station, on the 10th instant, a silver double-cased watch, number unknown, AD. I.T. printed on the dial, “ Rolleston ” scratched with a pin on the inside of case ; a rolled-gold curb-pattern chain attached : value, £3 15s. Watch only identifiable.

Christchurch. —Nicholas Gerry, settler, reports stolen from a box in his bedroom, Rosewarren Street, Spreydon, between the 27th and 29th ultimo, three sovereigns and four £1 notes; not identifiable.

Christchurch. —Reginald C. T. Evans, sharebroker, reports supposed stolen from him on the 3rd instant, at the Riccarton Racecourse, a black-leather purse with two compartments, flap on outside, containing five £1 notes; purse only identifiable.

Christchurch. —Charles H. Handley, station cadet, reports stolen from him at the Riccarton Racecourse, on the sth instant, a well-worn brown-pigskin purse with w'nitemetal mounting, containing £4 10s. in notes, gold, and silver ; purse only identifiable.

Christchurch. —Robert Pollock Smith, engineer, reports stolen from him at the Exhibition, on the Ist instant, a black-leather purse, steel clasp, containing four £1 notes (bank and numbers unknown), 17s. 6d. in silver, and a railway ticket to Waimate.

Linwood (Christchurch). —Ernest Ford, plasterer, reports that his dwelling was broken into on the let instant, and 2s. 6d. stolen ; also stolen, a red imitation-leather purse, about 6 in. long by 3 in. wide, metal clasp, “Daisy from Dad ” written inside with pencil, containing 7s. 9d. in silver, a key for a box, a small photo, and a halfpenny with tome marks on it; the property of Dora Trudgeon. Purse, photo, and halfpenny only identifiable.

Oxford. —David and William Moderate, farmers, report that on the sth instant their dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : A new, and an old Bank of New Zealand £1 note, numbers unknown, and 4s. 6d. in shillings, sixpences, and threepenny-pieces.

Ashburton. Thomas Blackburn, contractor, reports stolen from him, in the Commercial Hotel, on the 2nd instant, a nearly new lever open-faced watch, nickel case, No. 172517, “Da Beer ’’ on face ; value, £1 15s. Identifiable.
