Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

Napier. —Joseph Williams is charged on warrant with deserting his wife since the 26th ultimo. Description: Colonial, a butcher or shearer, twenty-eight years of age, sft. lOin. high, medium build, red hair, moustache only; dressed in light-check trousers and vest, black sac-coat, and hard black-felt hat. He left on the above date by s.s. “ Tasmania ” for Auckland, supposed en route to Sydney. Complainant, Violet Williams, Wellesley Road, Napier.

Pahiatua. —Thomas Hughes, charged with disobeying an order to maintain his children in the Burnham Industrial School, has been arrested by Constable J. Siddells, Ormondville police, and taken to the Terrace Gaol, Wellington.

Wellington. —William Montague is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Louisa, at Petone, since about the 23rd February, 1894. Description : Born in India (English parentage), a cook, fifty years of age, looks younger, sft. 9in. or lOin high, stiff build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, fair moustache only, worn long at ends, mark of a bruise on left cheekbone, good address; his father was an army doctor. He was cooking in a restaurant at Randwick, New South Wales, some few months ago, and it is thought will return to this colony as cook on one of the boats.

Christchurch. —Alexander Mollison is charged on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol, for one month’s imprisonment, for disobeying an order of Court to pay ss. a week towards the support of his wife. Description: English, a labourer, fifty-four years of age, sft. llin. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, grey beard, whiskers, and moustache. He left Christchurch about three months ago, supposed for Taranaki or Woodville.

Christchurch. —Patrick Connor is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court to pay 15s. a week towards the support of his wife. Description : A native of County Kerry, Ireland, broad accent, a ploughman, forty-two years of age, sft. sin. high, stout build, dark complexion, dark-blue eyes, dark-brown moustache, partly bald. (See Police Gazette, 1893, page 45.) He was £59 in arrears on the 23rd February last.

Christchurch. —William Smith is charged on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for three months, for disobeying an order of the Court for the support of his children. Description : English, labourer, forty years of age, sft. 6in. high, stout build, dark complexion, full dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, dark brown hair.

Hampden (Oamaru). —Sebright Ambler is charged on warrant with deserting his wife and iamily since the 9th October, 1894. Description : English, a wheelwright, thirtyeight years of age, sft. 6in. or 7in. high, stout build, failcomplexion, fair hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache. Complainant, Jane Small Ambler, Hillgrove.

Temuka. —Edward McKenzie is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his unborn child by Emma Piskie. Description: A native of Geraldine, New Zealand, a groom, twenty-one years of age, sft. llin. or 6ft. high, medium build, active appearance, brown hair, no hair on face, fresh complexion, rather large nose, rather good looking ; usually wears a dark-tweed sac-suit, black felt hat, and dark-tweed overcoat. Supposed to have gone to the North Island.

Dunedin. —John Swan, junior, is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court to pay Bs. a week towards the maintenance of his illegitimate child by Amelia Dunlop. Description : About twenty-eight years of age (looks younger), 6ft. lin. or 2in. high, strongly built, pale complexion, thin features, small fair moustache only, blue eyes ; dressed in a navy-blue suit and hard black-felt hat, mourning-badge on latter and arm. Said to be in Canterbury, en route to the North or Sydney. His father is a coal merchant in Dunedin.

Dunedin. —Hugh Wilson is charged on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Gaol for fourteen days’ labour for disobeying an order of Court to pay 15s. a fortnight towards the maintenance of Bella Wilson. Description: Scotch, a miner, fifty years of age, about sft. lOin. high, strong grey beard and moustache, cheeks shaved ; dressed in a lighttweed coat and soft-felt hat. May be accompanied by his son, twenty-eight years of age, and will probably endeavour to leave the colony.

Sydney. —Samuel Mantel Burrows is charged on warrant with having deserted his wife, Annie, since October last. Description: A native of Sydney, a clerk, forty-one years of age, sft. 6Jin. high, thin build, fair hair turning grey, heavy fair moustache and small side levers, chin shaved, grey eyes, joint of one toe broken, and bears heavily on that foot; usually dressed in a blue-serge sac-suit, and hard black-felt hat; smart gentlemanly appearance. Is said to have gone to Auckland, but cannot be found there. If traced he should be induced to provide for his wife and child. Photograph and warrant at Commissioner’s Office, (95/540.)

Deserter from Her Majesty’s Service. From H.M.S. “ Rapid,” at Auckland. On 21st April, 1895. Michael Walsh, ordinary seaman, nineteen years of age, sft. sin. high, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, fair complexion. A reward of £3 is offered for his arrest, in addition to £5 from the Colonial Government.
