Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.
Auckland. — Robert Collier is charged on warrant with having, on the 25th ultimo, stolen from the shop of Martha Lindsay, secondhand dealer, Wellesley Street, a mackintosh coat, value £l. Since recovered. Offender is English, twenty-eight years of age, sft. 7£in. high, medium build, pale complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, small dark moustache only.
(See Police Gazette, 1895, page 54.) Auckland. —Frederick Charles Griffiths’s portmanteau has been recovered. Not stolen.
Coromandel. —The Kauri Timber Company report that on the 2nd or 3rd instant their store at Whangapoua was broken into, and the following stolen: About £2 in silver and coppers, a French 10-cent. copper coin, a cheque for £B, drawn by Fred Lough on the Bank of New Zealand, payable to the complainant company; and two small canvas bags. Suspicion attached to Hippolite Caryes, alias Fred Jones, a Frenchman, staying in .Coromandel.
Rotorua. —Edwin Robertson, coach proprietor, reports stolen from his stable, during the night of the 24th ultimo, a gentlemen’s saddle, nearly new, imitation pigskin seat, open panel (lined with red leather), small dent on off edge of seat, small knee-pads, large iron stirrups, red web girths ; value, £3. Maoris suspected.

Palmerston North.— Stealing Nellie Cowper’s Gladstone bag: George and Annie Gray have been summoned for this offence, and committed for trial. Bag, gold oval-shaped brooch, greenstone oval-shaped brooch, skirt, and dressinggown recovered.
Foxton. —William Howe, contractor, Shannon, reports stolen at Tokomaru, on the 24th ultimo, a calico tent, 6ft. by Bft., maker Charles Dahl, Palmerston North, torn at right hand corner and stitched with brown thread; value, 15s. Suspicion attached to J. King, supposed English, a labourer, thirty-five to forty years of age, about sft. 7in. high, fair hair, full sandy beard clipped to a point at chin, and moustache of same colour ; wore a gray coat and white pants. He was until recently in complainant’s employ, and is supposed to have gone to Wellington.
Christchurch. —Stealing Albert S. Bulls’s saddle. Peter Yansen, and Richard Daniels, alias Drew, suspected. The saddle has been recovered from the shop of a secondhand dealer, who states he cannot identify the person from whom he bought it.
Rangiora. —James McDowell, Fernside, reports stolen from a paddock, between the 2nd and 4th instant, a fourleaved set of iron diamond harrows, together with draw-bar, which has “T. White,” the maker’s name, on it; value, £6.
Rangiora. —Michael Lynskey, Clerk of Court, reports stolen from bis office, on the 30th ultimo, eleven £1 notes, seven of them on the Union Bank of Australia.
