Horse- and Cattle-stealing.
Hamilton (Waikato). —James Neilson (also known as “ Jock ”), is charged on warrant with having, at Tawhare, about February, 1894, stolen a gelding (recovered), value £l2, the property of Charles Newton Le Quesne. Offender is a colonial, a labourer, about twenty years of age, sft. 9in. high, fair hair and complexion, no hair on face, stout build ; wears a dark-tweed sac-suit and a soft black-felt hat. He was seen in Auckland about four weeks ago, and spoke of returning to Gisborne, but may be employed on one of the cutters trading on the East Coast. His brother is a wheelwright at Paeroa. He sold the horse to Charles Short, of Thames, on the 30th May last, and it is now in possession of Thomas Hoskings, at Karaka Creek.

Marton. William Butterworth, charged with stealing Ephraim Puckey’s mare and foal (recovered), has been arrested by Constable A. M. Moon, and remanded.

Christchurch. —Charles Horwell, Belfast, reports stolen from a paddock, on the 18th ultimo, a brown hack-gelding, black points, three years old, 15J hands high, small white star on forehead, scar on off rump, no brands, in good condition, value £2O; also an old colonial-made saddle, leather worn off round cantle, with crupper, old stirrup-irons, leather girth, and an old single bridle, with plated snaffle-bit, reins patched ; value £1 4s.
