At the Government House, at Wellington, this eleventh day of December, 1894. Present: His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS, by “ The Sea-fisheries Act, 1894 ” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is, among other

things, enacted that the Governor in Council may from time to time make regulations for the purposes therein mentioned, which shall have general force and effect throughout the colony, or particular force and effect only in any waters or places specified therein: And whereas certain regulations were made by the Governor in Council on the tenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight, under “ The Fisheries Conservation Act, 1884,” and “ The Fisheries Conservation Act 1884 Amendment Act, 1887 ” :

And whereas it is expedient to revoke certain of the said regulations which were made by the Governor in Council on the tenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight, and to make the regulations hereinafter set forth prescribing a close season for the fish of the species of Mugil known as mullet or kanae, inhabiting the waters of the colony hereinafter described: Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the said Act, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby revoke that part of the first regulation made by the said Order in Council of the tenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight, commencing with the word “Maori” and ending with the word “ community,” and also the regulation numbered three made by the said Order in Council; and in pursuance and exercise of the said powers, and with the like advice and consent, His Excellency the Governor of the colony doth hereby make the following regulations, to have force and effect within the waters hereafter specified in the said regulations:—

Regulations

1. The period from the twentieth day of December in one year to the twentieth day of March in the next succeeding year, both days inclusive, is hereby prescribed a close season in respect of the fish of the species of Mugil known as mullet or kanae, during which close season it shall be unlawful for any person to take any such fish contrary to the provisions of the said Act.

2. These regulations shall have force and effect in all waters, as defined by the said Act, in the North Island of New Zealand bounded by a line commencing at Cape Wiwiki, and proceeding seawards on a bearing of N. 45° E. for a distance of three miles ; thence running generally parallel to and three miles distant from the coast-line to a line bearing N. 45° E. from the North Cape; thence along the said line in the direction of the North Cape to the high-water mark of the sea; and thence along a line following the high-water mark of the sea along the coast to Capo Wiwiki, and following the said high-water mark up the tidal rivers, and crossing such rivers at the points where the tidal effect terminates.

3. Any person committing a breach of these regulations shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds nor less than twenty shillings, to be recovered as is by the said Act provided. ALEX. WILLIS, Clerk of the Executive Council.

Fixing Shooting Season for Deer, License-fee, dc., Marlborough District. GLASGOW, Governor. By his Deputy, JAMES PRENDERGAST.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by “ The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” and the Acts amending the same, I, James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, in the name and on behalf of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, and as his duly-appointed Deputy, do hereby notify that deer (bucks or stags only) may be taken or killed within the Marlborough District, comprising the Counties of Marlborough and Sounds, from Saturday, the sixteenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, to Monday, the eighth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, both inclusive (subject, nevertheless, to the restrictions in the said Acts mentioned); and I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such game within the said district shall be issued on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each, and that licenses to sell such game shall be issued on payment of the sum of five pounds each ; and the Chief Postmaster at Blenheim is hereby appointed to issue the said licenses. As witness the hand of Sir James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, as such Deputy as aforesaid, this fifth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five. P. A. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by “ The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” and the Acts amending the same, I, James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, in the name and on behalf of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, and as his duly-appointed Deputy, do hereby notify that cock pheasants, Californian quail, and hares may be taken or killed within the Wellington Acclimatisation District, consisting of the Counties of Hutt, Wairarapa North, Wairarapa South, Pahiatua, Horowhenua, Kiwitea, Oroua, Pohangina, and Manawatu, together with all town districts and boroughs therein, from the first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, both inclusive (subject nevertheless to the restrictions in the said Acts mentioned). And Ido further notify that licenses to take or kill such game within the said district shall be issued on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each, and that licenses to sell game and native game shall be issued on payment of the sum of five pounds each; and the Chief Postmaster at Wellington, and the Postmasters at Palmerston North, Peilding, Sandon, Ashurst, Woodville, Pahiatua, Eketahuna, Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, Martinborough, Featherston, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, Foxton, and Otaki are hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses. And I do further declare that native game, excepting tui, huia, white heron, and crested grebe, may be taken or killed within the above-mentioned district from the first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, both days inclusive. As witness the hand of Sir James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, as such Deputy as aforesaid, this ninth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five.

aud on behalf of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, and as his duly-appointed Deputy, do hereby notify that red deer (stags only) may be taken or killed within the County of Wairarapa South (excepting therefrom the area described in the Schedule hereto) from the first day of April to the twenty-first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, both inclusive (subject, nevertheless, to the restrictions in the said Acts mentioned); and Ido further notify that licenses to take or kill such game within the said district shall be issued on the payment of the sum of twenty shillings each ; and the Chief Postmaster at Wellington, and the Postmasters at Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, and Featherston, are hereby appointed to issue the said licenses; and I do further notify that the said licenses to take or kill such game within the said district shall be issued subject to the following conditions, namely:— 1. That no licensee shall be allowed to kill more than three stags. 2. That no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than eight points.

SCHEDULE

All that area of land in the Huangarua Survey District, in the County of Wairarapa South, being Sections 29 to 41, inclusive, 59, 71, 72, 75, 79, 83, 90, 93, 97, 98, and part of Sections 70, 74, 78, 82, BG, 89, 92, 91, 94, 95, 96, 87, and 84, now in the occupation of Mr. John Martin* and known as the Puruatanga Estate or Station. As witness the hand of Sir James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, as such Deputy as aforesaid, this eighth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five.
