Horse- and Cattle-Stealing.

Patrick Byan is charged, on warrant issued by the Gisborne Bench, with the larceny as a bailee, on the 20th April last, at Gisborne, of a black mare, hack-breed, aged, branded HPI on rump, and a saddle and bridle ; the property of John Alexander Lucas; value £4 7s. Mare identifiable. Description : Irish, a labourer, about thirty years of age, sft. 7in. or Bin. high, stout build, dark complexion, black whiskers and moustache, chin shaved. He is supposed to have gone to Danevirke. Mr. Lucas lent the offender the mare, saddle, and bridle on the 20tli April last, on the understanding that he was to return them in a week, but he has not up to the present done so, and has left the district, taking them with him.

Supposed stolen on the 4th May last, from Phillipstown, near Christchurch, a light-draught dark-bay mare, aged, about fifteen hands high, mane cut short, marks from a packsaddle on back, a scar lin. wide on front of near foreleg just above the hoof, branded H over PI on near shoulder, a fast trotter in harness; the property of Charles Goldsmith ; value £lO. Identifiable.

Sydney Morrison is charged with the larceny as a bailee, on or about the 20th September last, at Tautane Villagesettlement, Danevirke, of a black gelding, value £B, since recovered, and a very old saddle and bridle, value 155.; the property of Denis Byan. Description : Supposed Irish, a labourer, about forty years of age, sft. 9in. high, medium build, dark complexion, grey eyes, dark hair, cheeks shaved, beard on chin, dirty appearance, and fond of drink. lent the offender the horse, saddle, and bridle in September last to go to Waiporoa, and he has not since returned them. Offender sold the horse to Arthur Lovejoy for £1 10s. He is supposed to have gone to Palmerson North or Feilding. Warrant to issue.
