Stealing Otherwise than from, the Person or from Dwellings.

(See Police Gazette, 1888, pages 119 and 127.) Horace Wood, charged with stealing a ladies’ velvet dress from the railway-station, Walton, Waikato, the property of Charles N. Murray, was arrested for the offence, on his discharge from Auckland Gaol, by Detective John M. Walker, Auckland Police, remanded to Te Aroha, and sentenced to two-months’ labour.

Stolen on the 21st ultimo, from the stable of Arthur Heather, Epsom, near Auckland, a nickel-silver-plated carriage driving-bit with hinge in centre, two rings at ends, and long cheeks at sides ; value 3s. Gd. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 24th December last, from the waiting-room at the railway-station, New Plymouth, a blue-and-white-check linen bag, tied with a running string at top, containing four blue oxford shirts, four white shirts, twenty white handkerchiefs, a pair of flannel drawers patched on inside of seat with same material, a white-flannel shirt, a pygama suit, twelve pairs of socks, two pairs of merino drawers, and a vest, all marked “ W. E. Percival,” a number of neckties, a pair of tennis-shoes with duke soles, and a cabin-pocket bound with red braid ; the property of William Edward Percival; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 13th ultimo, from the Zealandia Skating Rink, Auckland, forty-nine pairs of second-hand Eureka skates with wooden soles and tin backs, some painted red and others black, two straps on each; eighteen pairs have a small tube of dark-coloured wood fastened with a brass brad in the centre of each wheel by which they can be identified; the property of Joseph William Rix ; value Cs. a pair.

Stolen on the 27th or 28th ultimo, from the yard of Mrs. Luxmore, Timaru, thirty fowls, barn-door and Dorking breed, mixed sexes ; value £1 10s.

Stolen on the 14th or 15th December last, from the fowlhouse of Samuel Cohen, Jermyn Street, Auckland, seven young ducks —three yellow and four black.

Stolen about the 20th ultimo, from a shed at Sumner Road, ITeathcote, Christchurch, a chisel, a cold-chisel, and a small axe ; the property of George Simpson; value ss. Identifiable.

A youth, name unknown, is charged with stealing, on the 17th or 18th December last, from a house in course of erection, in Alexander Street, Auckland, a hammer and a jack-plane, value ss. 6d., since recovered ; the property of Henry Bruce Mclntyre. Description : About eighteen years of age, about sft. high, medium build, no hair on face; dressed in dirty-tweed suit and soft black-felt hat; larrikinappearance. Identifiable. He sold the hammer and plane on the 18th December last to William Frost, a second-hand dealer in City Market. There is a similar charge pending against him.

Stolen on the 18th ultimo, in Wellington Street, Auckland, a gold hunting lever watch, maker Rotherham, No. 19654, RWS engraved on outside of case, value £10; and an old silver lover open-face watch, maker’s name and number not known, out of repair, value £3 ; the property of Richard Ellis. Identifiable. On the morning of the 18th ultimo Mr. Ellis’s house was burned down, and the watches were saved and placed with other property oil the opposite side of the street, from where they were stolen soon after.

Stolen on the 30tli ultimo, from off a horse, at North Clyde, Wairoa, a new saddle, two cuts in lining which have

been sewn up, two Ds on each side of gullet, flat stirrupirons with three bars at bottom, and an old bridle with leather forehead-band ; the property of William Gonlett; value £4. Saddle identifiable. A Maori, name unknown, was seen stealing the saddle and bridle.

Stolen between the 21st and 26th ultimo, from the stable of James Dawson, at Naseby, a double-rein bridle with green forehead-band, throat-strap broken at one end and mended ; value about £1 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 24tli ultimo, from the stable of James Smith, Naseby, a saddle, value £4 ; a plain single-rein snafflebridle with white forehead-band, value 15s. ; a plain breastplate with bone rings, value 10s.; and a leather girth, value Bs. 6d. Bridle and breast-plate identifiable. The saddle has been recovered ; it was found on the following day on the Naseby race-course.

Stolen on the sth or 6th instant, from a registered letter, at the South Dunedin Post-office, or the Chief Post-office, Dunedin, a£l note ; the property of Robert Kemp. The letter containing the £1 note was addressed to G. Adams, Tattersalls, Sydney ; was registered and posted at the South Dunedin office on the sth instant, and on the following day when examined at the Chief Post-office was found cut open at the edge and the money abstracted.

Stolen on the 19tli or 20th November last, from the goldmining claim of Boavautura de Bettincor and Co., Five-mile, near Cromwell, about loz. of gold ; value £3 15s.

Stolen on the 12th or 13th September last, from the goldmining claim of Boavautura de Bettincor and Co., Five-mile, near Cromwell, about 2oz, of gold ; value £7 10s.

Stolen on the 29th ultimo, at Waikanae, Wellington District, two nearly-new sets of leading-harness, loin-straps and crupper lined with leather, trace-chains pass through leather tubes attached to back-band ; the property of William Hen■shaw; value £lO. Identifiable.
