Horse- and Cattle-Stealing.

(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 209.) Stealing sheep from Downsend Farm, Canterbury, the property of Thomas Blair: It is now thought that the sheep died during the winter, or strayed among the flocks of neighbouring settlers.

(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 198.) The mare, the property of A. R. Hay, reported stolen from St. Ronan’s, Halfway Bush, Southland, has been recovered.

Supposed stolen on the 9th ultimo, from Invercargill, a bay horse, six or seven years old, nuggety build, star on forehead, branded uon near shoulder; value £lO. Had on a canvas cover, lined with drugget, value £1 55.; the property of James Donnelly. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 30th ultimo, from a paddock at Ashburton, a dark-brown mare, hack breed, 15£ hands high, star on forehead, sear on off fore fetlock, unbranded, newly shod, the property of Townley Filgate Culbert; value £io. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 28th ultimo, from a paddock at Upper Ashburton, a black gelding, hack breed, aged, about 15 hands high, slit' in off ear, branded CM on near shoulder; the property of Frank Lowe; value £6. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen on the 25th or 26th ultimo, from Carnpbelltown, Manawatu, a piebald gelding, light draught breed, about four years old, branded like Tk conjoined on off shoulder, white legs; a black mare, hack breed, aged, about 141 hands high, diamond brand on near shoulder, white snip on nose, hollow-backed ; and a dark-brown gelding, hack breed, aged, about 15 hands high, star on forehead, unbranded ; the property of Francis Loudon ; value £25. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen about the 20th ultimo, from a paddock near Wanganui, a bay horse, aged, black points, a little white on off hind heel, long tail, branded WL on near shoulder, unshod; the property of Daniel Gunn; value £l6. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen on the 13th instant, from Kaeo, Whangaroa, Auckland, a very light grey saddle-horse, about six

years old, about 15 hands high, branded H on near shoulder’ white wavy mane, shod; the property of Thomas Devenport; value £l6. Identifiable.
