Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

Edwahd Carrington Buxton Sutherland is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with disobejing an order, since June, 1879, to pay £1 per week towards the support of his five children, at Dunedin. Description: Scotch, a labourer, forty years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, slender build, fair complexion and hair, long fair sandy whiskers, slight fair beard and moustache.

William McKeown, charged on warrant with deserting his wife, at Christchurch, has been arrested by Sergeant William Henry Scott, Oxford Police, and discharged.

John Wilson is charged, on warrant issued by the Timaru Bench, with deserting his three children at Timaru since the 12th June last. Description : A native of the North of Ireland, a groom and farmer, thirty-two years of age, 5 feet 7$ inches high, slight build, thin features, blue eyes, tender eyelids, dark hair, thin short sandy beard whiskers and moustache; • when last seen wore dark-grey tweed coat, bedford-cord trousers, leather leggings, and soft black felt-hat. (See Police Gazette, 1882, page 105.) lie left Timaru on the 12th June last by train for Christchurch. His father lives at Styx, near Christchurch.

W. W. Parsons, alias Oily Parsons, charged on warrant of commitment, in default of paying £1 fine and 7s. costs, for a breach of the peace, has paid the fine and costs.

John Brown is charged, on warrant issued by the Dargavillo Bench, with disobeying a summons to appear at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Dargavillo, on the 13th ultimo, to answer a charge of having made use of obscene language in a public place at Dargaville, on the 10th June last. Description: Scotch, a buslnnan, about forty-five years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, sandy complexion, full face, blue eyes, hair and whiskers turning grey ; usually wears grey-tweed sac-coat and vest, moleskin trousers, and black billycock hat. He is supposed to have gone to the Mangokohia bush.

William Ryder is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with deserting his wife and five children, at Blenheim, since the 30th June last. Description : English, a labourer (generally employed at bush-work), thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, dark eyes, brown hair, dark beard whiskers and moustache, sharp nose, active appearance ; dressed in light-tweed suit, paget-coat, and pepper-and-salt-tweed hat. He was heard of at the Albion Hotel, Dunedin, on the 7th ultimo.

Edward Hitchman is charged, on warrant issued by the Waimate Bench, with disobeying a summons to appear at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Waimate, on the 19th ultimo, to answer a charge of assaulting his wife. Description : English, an engine-driver and camp-cook, about thirty-two years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair beard whiskers and moustache, cast in both eyes, stooped shoulders ; dressed in old dirty tweed coat and vest, white-moleskin trousers, old watertight boots, black-felt hat, and grey-tweed shirt; dirty slovenly appearance. He was last seen in Timaru about a fortnight ago.
