Escaped Prisoner.
Eruera Tewhatanui, alias Kingie, alias Kingie Haira, is charged with breaking out of the police gaol at Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay, about 11.30 a.m. on the 27th ultimo. Description: A Maori, about twenty-seven years of age, about 5, feet 7 or 8 inches high, high cheek-bones, low forehead, sullen appearance, no hair on face; dressed in dark-tweed paget-coat, grey-tweed trousers, and elastic-side boots. He was remanded until the 28th ultimo on a charge of horse-stealing and on two charges of larceny. He is identical with Kingie, charged wiih escaping from the lock-up at Opotiki on the 18th December last. (See Police Gazette, 1882, page 3.) He is supposed to be making towards the Urewera country.
