(See Police Gazette, 1882, page 81.) Frederick Ventry, charged with embezzling money, the property of the Tasmanian Government, has been arrested by the George Town Territorial Police.

[Roderick Harry McLennan is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with having, on the 12th June last, at Waiau, Amuri, Nelson District, obtained £5 from Edward Herbert King, by means of a valueless cheque. Description: A native of Bothshire, Scotland, a shepherd and road-contractor, thii’ty-one years of age, 5 feet 104 inches high, medium build, pale complexion, very dark-brown hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache, dark-grey eyes, large mouth, long thin pointed nose, slight impediment in speech, inclines slightly forward when

walking; dressed in grey-tweed suit and hat, and watertight boots ; may represent himself as a man of property. He issued several other valueless cheques. He is identical with Roderick Harry McLennan, referred to in the Folice Gezetie, 1880, page 22, and 1881, page 138. He left the colony by the steamer “ Manipouri,” which arrived in Melbourne on the 9th ultimo.

Rowland Paul Mahoney, alias Davis, is charged, on warrant issued by the Lyttelton Bench, with obtaining board and lodging, value £3 125., from Patrick O’Brien on the 22nd June last, at Lyttelton, by false representations. Description : Irish, about thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, sandy beard whiskers and moustache worn long, lame in right leg, carries a walkingstick ; dressed in light-tweed suit and light-tweed hat; respectable appearance ; well educated. He falsely represented himself as a brother of the Pev. Father Mahoney, of Nelson.

A tall fair young man, name unknown, dressed in a black overcoat and a black soft-felt hat pulled over his eyes, is charged w r ith having indecently exposed his person to Isabella Duncan, in Worcester Street, Christchurch, about 9.30 p.m. on the 22nd ultimo.

Richard Porter is wanted on warrant for embezzling £4,000, the money of the Clitlieroe Building Society, of which he was secretary. Description : A native of Clitlieroe, Lancashire, fifty-three years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, complexion dark (sallow'), hair whiskers and moustache dark (grey), small eyes, long features, cut-mark on back of right hand, proportionate build, square shoulders; wears a grey-tweed suit and billycock hat. A reward of £2O is offered for his apprehension by the society. Information to the Chief Constable of the Lancashire Constabulary, Preston, England. Photograph in Commissioner’s office.

Charles William Rintoul, a rate-collector, absconded from Peterborough, England, on the 17th April last, charged on warrant with embezzling £2,300 from the Corporation. Description : Thirty-five years of age, 5 feet fi or 7 inches high, complexion dark, inclined to be sallow, hair and eyes black; when last seen had a black moustache and beard, square but rather slender build, has a springy step, and looks on the ground wdien walking ; is a great smoker; di’esses well, and had with him a light-coloured suit; is about 10 stone in weight. It is suspected he will endeavour to leave the country. £IUO reward. Information to James Hurst, Head Constable, Police Station, Peterborough, England, who holds the warrant.
