Deserters from Merchant Vessels.
(See Police Gazette, 1881, pages 203 and 204.) James Kingsland, charged with deserting from the ship “ Timaru,” at Port Chalmers, has been arrested by Constables Green and Colborne, Blueskin and Port Chalmers Police, and sentenced to four weeks’ labour.
Philip Degrucy and J. B. Pinto, seamen, are charged with deserting from the ship “Timaru,” at Port Chalmers, during the night of the 6th instant. Description : Degrucy is a native of Jersey, thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout build, square shoulders, dark eyes and complexion, dark hair, beard, and moustache, cheeks shaved. Pinto is an American, twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slight build, small round features, very dark complexion, dark hair and eyes, clean-shaved except small dark moustache.
(See Police Gazette, 1881, page 177.) The warrant issued by the Lyttelton Bench for the arrest of John McKinnon and Peter Petersen, for deserting from the ship “ Lake Ontario,” has been cancelled.
(See Police Gazette, 1881, pages 177 and 185.) The warrants issued by the Lyttelton Bench for the arrest of William Armstrong, Duncan Bell, James alias John Carolam, and Alexander McLean, for deserting from the barque “ Cooleen,” have been cancelled.
