Whereas James Lyons, an important witness in the case of James and Patrick McMenamin, charged with arson, having failed to appear to give evidence at the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Invercargill, on Ihe sth of May, 1879, and whereupon a warrant was issued for the arrest of the said James Lyons : This is to notify that a reward of £2O is offered for such information as may be given to the police that shall lead to the arrest of the said James Lyons. Description of James Lyons : Forty-six years of age, 5 feet 8£ inches high, stout square build, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, grey eyes, flat nose, native of Ireland, a labourer, has been in the army and through the Maori war. Last heard of on the 9th ultimo, about five miles from Tapanui. Particular marks : The name “ Mary Murphy,” also “ anchor and star,” tattooed on right arm. G. S. Whitmore, Commissioner, Armed Constabulary. Armed Constabulary Office, Wellington, 14th June, 1879. Lyons was seen about three weeks ago at the Haast Pass, on his way to Westland.
