A MAGNIFICENT BEQUEST.
A brewery and 52 public-limits were s° : d in Lincoln recently. In November last Mr. John Dawber. the owner, died and left the greater part of his property to be sold, the proceeds to be given to such charitable objects in Lincoln as the City Council shall decide. One portion had already been sold, but the brewery, wine and spirit business and 52 hotels and public-houses, were put up to auction. Bidding started at €40,000 but eventually the lot went to Messrs’ Mowbray and Co., brewers, of Grantham, for £66,475. It is expected that altogethei a sum of £lOO,OOO will be obtained from the estate, and this will he available for local charities.
