LICENSING MEETINGS.

OHINEMURI. The quarterly meeting of the Ohinemun Licensing Committee was held at nooa last Thursday, the members present being: Messrs R. S. Bush, S.M. (chairman). Gavin, Franklin, Stanley and Hitching. A permanent transfer of the license of the Puriri Hotel from Margaret Jane Laycock to John Ganley was granted. John Edwards, licensee of the Criterion Hotel, Paeroa, was granted an extension of leave of absence to January 10 next. The police reports in all cases were favourable, except with regard to the Lramwav Hotel and the Karangahake Hotel, both at Karangahake. Complaints of suspected Sunday trading were made by the police about both hotels, and complaint was also made about delay in admitting the police to the Karangahake Hotel. Mr Moresby, who appeared for the licensees, said that there was no Sunday trading carried on, as the licensees had made up their minds to strictly close their houses

on Sundays. The reason Mr Montgomery, the licensee of the Karangahake Hotel, did not admit the police was because he did not hear him. People passing the Tramway Hotel on Sundays to a two-up school, made it look as if that hotel was doing Sunday trading, while as a matter of fact the licensee had complained about the two-up school to the police. The committee warned the licensees that they must not give any occasion even to suspect Sunday trading, and passed the matter with a caution. MANUK AU. The Manukau Licensing Committee held a sitting\jn the Onehunga ' Police Court on the 6th inst., when there were present: Mr John Rowe (chairman), Messrs 1). Neilson, W. McLennan, Harris, Westney. Sergeant Twomey officiated as Clerk of the Court. Transfers : Applications were received for the transfer of licenses of the Railway Hotel at Drury, from W. G. Rae to C. L. Kasper, and the Criterion Hotel at Otahuhu from George Clark to E. Y. Buller. Both applications were granted.
