GISBORNE.
January 17. Tennis Party. Last Friday Mrs. G. J. Black gave a most enjoyable tennis party at her residence, Kaiti. Afternoon tea was served under the large trees surrounding the court. Some of those present were:— Mesdames P. Barker (sen.), R. G. Black, and G. M. Dodgshun; Misses Murray, Grant, Nolan, Blaek (2), Rees, » oiiams (3), Graham, Davies, Coleman, Barker (2), and Evans.
Tennis. - —/ On Saturday a large crowd of players assembled at the courts. A delicious tea was provided by Mrs. A. J. Henderson, the Misses Smith and 8. Evans. Thet tea-table was artistically decorated with large bowls of bright blue hydrangea. Amongst those present were: Mesdames W. R. Barker, Smith, Tarris, F. Parker, Matthews, Anderson, Kells, Pittar, IL M. Porter, Singer, Murray, Field,. Gover and Dodgshun; Misses de Latour (2), Murray, Dewes, Black (2), Coleman, Davies, Grant, Runciman, Berry Williams (3), Brown, Rees, Lusk, Bradley, Brooke-Taylor, Hodge, Bull, Maelaurin (2), Faulkner (2), Schumacher,, Booth and Reynolds; Messrs. W. R. Barker, Matthews, Dodgshun, Nolan, Orr, Smart, Jeffreys, O’Brien, Hamilton, Willock, Kells, Etherington, Kissling, Caihs, Reade, Maelaurin, Hall, Bremner, Grant, Fulton,, Parker, and McKenzie. A most enjoyable tennis afternoon was held at the courts on Wednesday. Twenty-four players entered, and play was kept up till 5.30. The first prize in the A grade was won by Miss N. Davies, the second being Won by Miss D. Bull. In the B grade the first prize was won by Miss P. de Lajitour, the second prize being won by Miss G. Kennedy. Personal.
Miss D. Bennett is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Symes (Auckland). Mr. W. Busby (Tokomaru), returned home from Napier last Saturday. Miss M. Warren (England), is thei guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Williams, Tuparoa. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Williams returned home on Sunday after an enjoyable holiday in the South Island.
