STRATFORD.
August 10. The Operatic Society, with numerous friends and admirers, journeyed to Hawera, where they performed “H.M.S. Pinafore.” They had a tremendous reception and a crowded house; indeed, many were unable to gain admission. A special train conveyed the travellers back to Stratford after the performance. All report a very jolly time. Personal. • Mrs. Budge gave a bridge party on Wednesday evening. The many friends of Mrs.' Dillon Car-
bery will be interested to hear that she is much improved in health, and has returned to Ireland,' after many months spent in Algiers. Dr. Cameron,' recently from Aberdeen, ami who has been acting locum tenens for Dr. Paget, has now entered into partnership with him. Dr. and Mrs. Paget left by motor car on Monday on a holiday tour to be spent in the South Island.
Mrs. W. H. Young is spending a short holiday in Wanganui. Mr. R. Hogg (Midhurst) has gone on a holiday trip to Christchurch, and will attend the Grand National Steeplechase meeting. Miss Vera Mcßeth (Feilding) and Miss Wyn Bayly (Wanganui), who have been the guests of Mrs. Rennell, left for Hawera on Thursday.
Mr. Liardet (Wellington) was a visi tor to Stratford during the week.
Mr. George Watt (Matakana) is the guest of Dr. Carbery. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Budd (Christchurch) are visiting Mrs. P. G. Budd. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Hobbs sympathise with them in their recent bereavement in the tragic death of their youngest son, Arthur, who, while riding in his motor car, collided with a trap and was killed near Hawera. Mrs. Grant entertained the members of the Bridge Club on Friday evening.
