NAPIER.

August 10. Savage Club. The members of the Savage Club gave a Ladies’ Night in the Theatre Royal on Tuesday. Only the ground floor of the theatre was used, ami before eight o’clock every seat was tilled. The room was decorated with many-coloured draperies, and the stage represented a Maori pa, with Maori carvings and heaps of palms. Little tables were placed here and there among the audience with little dishes of sweets. The Savages gave a delightful programme, and finished up with a most original play. It was a bitterly cold night, and nearly everyone was huddled up in coats and scarves. Mrs P. S. MeLeau wore pale, blue charmeuse, with much handsome embroidery and cream lace; Mrs G. The local Hockey Club have organised a bazaar, which is now in full swing at the Theatre Royal. The various stalls are beautifully decorated, and each, with its attendants, represents a different period or nation. The fancy work is charmingly pretty, and a very delicious cup of tea may be obtained at the Japanese kiosk. Various sides in the way of a fortune-teller and a miniature theatre, provide plenty of fun. The funds will be used to send their representatives to Auckland for toe hockey tournament. Golf. On Tuesday last a team of Hastings ladies eame to Napier to try conclusions with a local team. An exciting contest took place, resulting in a win for Napier. Personal. Mrs and Miss Goodson, of Ifawcra, are staying in Napier. Mrs and Miss White, of Porangahau, are in town this week. Mrs Goring Johnston and Mrs Pratt, of Palmerston North, are visiting in Hawke’s Bay. Mrs ami Miss Molyuux, of Wellington, are in Napier for a few weeks. Mrs Frank Moeller and Miss Moeller have gone to Christchurch for the Grand National. Mrs Geddis has returned from her visit to Auckland. Mr and Mrs Busby, of Tokomaru Bay, are in Napier for a few days. Mrs Rutherford, of Canterbury, who has been staying in Napier for some time, leaves on Monday for Christchurch. She will probably return to Napier the following week.
